Funding for NWLS
Northwestern Legal Services is primarily funded by federal and state grants, including those from the Legal Services Corporation, Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Title XX, the Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts, Disability Advocacy Program, and the Access to Justice Act. These funds are restricted and can only be used for casework.
To expand our outreach, we are actively fundraising for unrestricted funds. These funds will enable us to increase our impact and reach more individuals in need!
Donations
We are grateful for private donations. NWLS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and charitable organization registered in Pennsylvania. Our PA registration number is 0013977.
Why Donate?
Housing affordability is at a record low, with many tenants and homeowners being unaware of their rights. This can lead to homelessness or displacement to overcrowded shelters. NWLS provides free phone advice and outreach for a wide range of housing issues, including:

- Mortgage foreclosures
- Sheriff sales
- Homelessness prevention

Erie Gives

Erie Gives is an annual day of giving where the Erie community comes together to support local nonprofits. Donors can contribute to their favorite organizations, and a prorated match from the Erie Community Foundation enhances these donations.
Crawford Gives
8/24/24 - 8/27/24
Crawford Gives is a fundraiser event presented by the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation. It aims to provide a space for nonprofits to share their stories while giving community members a chance to connect with causes they are passionate about.
Warren Gives

We are excited to announce our participation in the upcoming Warren Gives event! Its goal is to raise awareness for nonprofit organizations serving the Warren County area with opportunities to reach new donors. With a matching pool for each donation, you can double your impact!

Northwestern Legal Services receives general funding from Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and Title XX of the Social Security Act. Both sources strictly regulate program operations and establish the criteria for the determination of client eligibility. Under Section 504 of the LSC Appropriation Act and Sections 1610.5 and 1610.7 of the LSC Regulations, your donation may not be used in any manner inconsistent with the LSC Act or Section 504.
However, you will not be a client of Northwestern Legal Services unless we contact you and tell you that your case is accepted.
